July 25, 2005 "Pus in Boots"

Last night's dinner table discussion revolved around the difference between the word "Pus" and the word "Puss". (My son kept pronouncing the former word like the latter.)

So we made up the story of "Pus in Boots".

Once upon a time there was a miller who had three sons. When he died he left the oldest son the mill for his inheritance. To the second son he left the donkey, but to the third son all he left was dead white blood cells.

The millers son said, "With good fortune and hard work, both my older brothers can make a living with their inheritance. But what can I do with dead white blood cells?"

The the dead white blood cells said to him, "My master, if you would buy me a pair of boots, I would serve you well." So his master bought the dead white blood cells a pair of new boots, and the dead white blood cells became, "Pus in Boots."
