Yesterday evening, Erick and Jay went to take a walk to town. Jay is working on
his hiking merit in Royal Rangers, and he has several hikes he needs to take, so
he wanted to walk to town, which is about four miles away.
The cell
phone was out of batteries, so I told Erick to walk to one of our friends'
house, and call me from there, and I would come and get them so they wouldn't
have to walk all the way home. I had some clothes to drop off for the wife,
anyway, for a free clothes ministry she does. Erick left, and some time later he
called to say he'd made it, and I could come and get him now.
I loaded
up the kids and the clothes, and went to our friends' house. They were happy to
see us, but when I asked where Erick was, she got the funniest look on her face
and said she had no idea. Was he supposed to have been there?
I was at a
loss as to where he could have gone. I know he called me, and I know he didn't
have the cell phone. We called another friends' house in town, and he wasn't
over there. The husband of the couple had to go run an errand, and so we asked
if he could keep an eye out for him.
Just about the time I was ready to
go out looking for him, the husband came back with Erick and Jay. They had gone
to the gas station. Erick insists he told me to meet him there. He had been
looking out for me, but didn't see me when I drove right past it. We had a good
laugh about it, although it was very perplexing for that time when I didn't know
where he was.
