I guess I haven't posted anything in here yet about my Science Fair, so I'll
take a few minutes to update you on that.
I really didn't intend on
coordinating a big event like this. I've never done it before, so I'm nervous
and hoping I get everything taken care of that needs to be taken care of. We are
doing a unit study and we are studying Science and Scientific Method, and as a
co-op activity they suggest an informal science fair. I don't have a co-op, but
I am subscribed to the e-group for the local support group, so I sent a message
to the group asking if anyone knew of any home school science fairs coming up or
if anyone was interested in having one. I mentioned that I would be willing to
put one together if there was interest. My thoughts were to reserve a room at
the library and have people set up displays. No competition or anything, just an
opportunity to share what we've learned with other homeschoolers.
Well,
one of the board members contacted me and said that if I was willing to
coordinate the Science Fair, that the homeschool group would sponsor it. I
thought that sounded great. They would pay for all expenses, and all I would
have to do is reserve a place.
But they wanted judges. So I've been
working trying to line up judges. I think I have everyone I need now, including
a Physics Professor who was a finalist in NASA's astronaut program. I still have
to make a trip to the Tropy Shop to get prizes, and make programs, and hope and
pray that enough people participate to make it worth everyone's time. If I can
just get enough participation, I think it's going to be good. I'm just nervous,
though. And in the midst of all that, I still have to get my own kids' science
fair project done! We're making a wind meter.
