October 6, 2008--Organizing

Lately the kitchen cabinet where I keep my bowls and containers has just been in complete disarray. I had purchased some time ago a set of plastic bowls in various sized with lids, perfect for either mixing or storing. Unfortunately, most of the bowls were missing. The kids kept using them as dog dishes or cat dishes. Some of them even ended up in the chicken pen. They would go missing and then turn up weeks later, dirty with teeth marks.

My other containers were turning up missing as well. Even my cottage cheese containers and sour cream containers were missing. I've always washed them out and saved them and used them for leftovers. Back when Erick used to work at Wal-Mart, I'd always pack his lunch in sour cream containers. Some of his co-workers thought it was really strange that he was always eating out of a sour cream container, but they fit so nicely in a lunchbox. I knew it was getting bad when I was putting away groceries one day and picked up a new, un-opened container of sour cream and wondered what was in it.

I hardly had anything left besides lids, and I had plenty of them. One ice cream bucket, 15 ice cream bucket lids. One cottage cheese container, 30 cottage cheese container lids. And so on.

Today I went shopping. I bought myself a set of food storage containers, a new set of plastic mixing bowls with lids, and new dishes for the pets. I threw away an entire garbage bag full of lids and containers, and organized my cabinet. It looks so nice! No one had better take any of my new containers outside or they will face the wrath of Mom.
