December 16, 2007--Snowed in

We got quite a bit of snow last night, somewhere around eight inches I think. They were calling for six to ten inches, plus 20-30 mph winds overnight. We had a Messiah concert scheduled for 4:00pm today, and we were planning on taking our Sunday School class with us to see it. Erick had told me yesterday that there was a good chance we would have to cancel the concert. My inclination at the time was to stick my fingers in my ears and say, "Na, na, na, na, na, I can't hear you!" I hate cancelling things, and my optimistic personality likes to believe that it won't be as bad as all that, that everything will be plowed out by the time we need to leave. He came home from work early yesterday evening, and I had him bring home some M&Ms just in case we got snowed in, so we could make a cookie church if we happened to be home all day. My mom called and invited us to come over to their house for a home church service, since they had cancelled services at their church. We weren't sure if ours was still planning on being open, but we decided to keep it in mind. It would have taken quite a bit to shovel out this morning, and the highway was still pretty bad, so we all put on our snowsuits (I had to convice Sarah to nix the dress and sandals) and stomped our way through the snow to mom's and dad's house. They gave us donuts and hot chocolate and other goodies and we had a really nice home church service. They did cancel the Messiah concert. We may get it rescheduled the day after Christmas, if the Salvation Army can fit us in. We do have one scheduled for Wednesday, still. One of the ladies in our Sunday School that was going to be going tonight said she'd come Wednesday instead. We did make a cookie church this afternoon. There's melted plastic in my sugar syrup cement, though, because I used a plastic spoon to stir the syrup as it was melting. Next time I'll stick with a wooden spoon. It looks really nice, and the kids are busy finishing off the leftover M&Ms. It's been a nice, relaxing day. It would be even nicer if the kitchen would magically clean itself up now.
