February 20, 2007--A job for Erick
Well, God answers prayer! Just about the time I was starting to think maybe God didn't want Erick to get a job, he gets one. I'll never figure God out, I don't think.
Anyway, yesterday Erick was at church working on fixing a leak from all the snow we've had lately. There is a flat metal roof over the foyer, and ice had backed up in the gutters and downspouts, and there was two feet of snow on the roof. The snow was melting and the water couldn't go down the gutters, so it was finding it's way inside and had completely ruined the ceiling tiles. Anyway, he was talking to the children's pastor about all the trouble he's had trying to get a job. He was getting discouraged because no one had called back, and even the hog plant didn't have any positions open. The pastor prayed with him, and then said, "Erick, when you get home today there's going to be a phone call waiting for you about a job."
Now, I've heard people say things like that before, and more often than not it doesn't come true. I know some people that think if you say it and believe it God's gotta do it. This pastor isn't that kind, and that's not what he was doing. I believe God gave him a true word of knowledge.
A couple of hours later, at home, Wal-Mart called. I took a message--they wanted to interview Erick for a job. I called the church and left a message for Erick to call me. When he did, he didn't tell me right away what the children's pastor had said. He waited until he came home to tell me.
He went to his interview at Wal-Mart today, and they said if he passes the urine test and the background check he's got a job. He will be working in the Automotive Department as a service technician, doing things like changing oil and replacing windshield wipers. He starts at $9.00 an hour. We're so excited! It will be nice to be making a consistent income for a change. Praise God for His provision!
