Grandpa Luper passed away this evening. We had kind of
gotten our hopes up that he was doing better, because they had moved him to the
Veteren's Home and he was getting a better treatment for his bedsores, but while
I was at work Erick called to tell me he was dying, and a couple hours later
called me again to tell me he was gone.
We will be going up to Indiana on
Sunday, all of us. We had thought about just Erick going, but he can't take the
car because it might not make it there and back, and if he's going to take the
van we might as well all go, too. The viewing is Sunday and the funeral is
Monday.
We've already pretty much mourned him since we've had so much
warning, but it is disappointing because it looked for awhile like he was doing
better. It did hit Erick kind of hard, but he's doing okay.
It's kind of
ironic that he's been to a lot more funerals than I have, but that this is his
first grandparent to die. I've only been to two funerals, and they were both my
grandparents. He is very blessed to have such a close family. They are all
there; all his aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, brothers, sisters, mom and
dad. They all get together for holidays. It's amazing.
My extended family is
all over the country. I really don't even know my remaning grandpa. I send him a
card on Christmas, and that's it. My grandma I haven't seen since before my
oldest son was born. Aunts and Uncles and Cousins--I saw them last when my
grandma died about five years ago. On my mom's side it's been probably more than
15 years since I've seen them. I met my great-grandma once. Erick is a very
blessed man to have his family so close.
