November 8, 2005--Computer woes

I have been having some computer problems lately. Things have been running very slowly. The longer I stay on forums the slower things run. Usually they will start out okay, but by the second or third post they are running slower and slower until I can't post anymore and I have to reboot. Right now things are actually running okay, but I don't imagine they will stay that way. Yesterday I e-mailed Fritz about it, because I'm running so far behind in my moderating duties, and he suggested I do a scan for viruses (virusi?) and adware/spyware. It took me three hours to do that, and although I did not find any viruses, I did find some adware which I deleted, but it didn't seem to help when I tried forums later on. If anything, things were running slower. So that's a little disheartening.

I keep thinking maybe it's just this site, because other sites seem to run okay, but on the other hand, this is the only site I have to type on. (Oops, a dangling preposition! Oh well. Life goes on.)

I'm wondering if maybe my computer is just too old. I looked on Ebay last night and almost bid on one, but it only had five minutes left and I didn't want to make a hasty purchase. It was another Compaq, and I didn't know if Erick would want me getting another one. It had lots more memory than this one, though--250mb vs 64. So I don't know, I probably should have gone ahead and got it. It was only up to about $35. I did bid on another one (a brand new Dell) but I didn't even meet the reserve price on it. Erick thinks we should just get another one, but it would wipe out half of our emergency fund to do that and I don't know if Dave Ramsey would think this qualifies as an emergency.

Anyway, I figured I'd post about it, because as little as I can get on now, I'd better at least try and keep my blog active! And it's about the only half-way interesting thing going on right now anyway. So it's all I have to post about.

Yes, I know I'm making a lengthy post about nothing, but when I can type freely without waiting several seconds for each word to show up, it causes me to type with reckless abandon simply for the sheer joy of typing.
