April 27, 2004--Fence

I'm so excited! We are going to be putting in a fence soon. If it hadn't been for the Dave Ramsey course, we would never have had cash on hand to do a large project like this. We had $1000 altogether for this project. That's not including the $1000 we have in our emergency fund.

Now the fun part--trying to decide exactly what kind of a fence to put in and whether we should attempt to do it ourselves or hire it out. If we wanted a very cheap fence, some people at church have some old chain link fencing we could paint and put in with the help of some of the guys at Erick's work who volunteered to help. But we also have to keep in mind the fact we're going to have to sell this house in a couple of years, and improving the property value is important.

The neighbor on our right said if we put in a privancy fence, she'll pay for half of that side. The neighbor on the left might do the same. The neighbor behind us already has a chain link fence. If we wanted to do a chain link fence, we might be able to just connect to hers.

We're kind of thinking about doing the side fences for now and waiting until later on to do the back, depending on how much this project is going to cost. We've got a lady coming out from a fence company to give us some estimates this afternoon. I hope labor isn't too expensive--it would be so nice to have it done and not have to do it ourselves!
