August 16, 2007--Misc.

We spent yesterday butchering chickens. I didn't help very much, though. I was content to stay inside and wash them and put them in freezer bags after Erick did all the dirty work. I think the total count was nineteen. He didn't go work on the porch he's been doing today--by the time he was done with the chickens he was worn out. We also went to the library for the first time in several weeks. We had a missing library book and I had cleaned the entire house looking for it and had not found it. It was overdue by a couple of weeks at least and I had renewed it as many times as they allowed. I was planning on just paying for it today, but then I decided to look in the station wagon. I had sent one of the kids to look there before, but hadn't looked myself. We haven't driven it in awhile, ever since we got the new van, and it really hadn't crossed my mind that we would have checked out the library books before that time. So I went and looked yesterday, and found it inside a backpack on the floor of the backseat. Whew! At our library you can read off overdue fines. Every fifteen minutes you spend reading a book in the library takes of $2 from your fines, so between the kids and me we knocked out the entire fine. Our other car is gone now, too, btw. That the one that had the bearing that ground off while Erick was driving it back in, oh, I think Februrary. I had tried to give it away on Freecyle and couldn't get anyone to take it. Finally I looked online and found a place where you can donate your car and they come pick it up and sell it for their charity. They also give you a voucher for a free hotel stay, so I signed up. They came and got it Tuesday. It was kind of sad to see it go, because it was the vehicle we owned the longest, and it was such a good little car, but I'm glad to have the extra space in front of the driveway.
