November 13, 2007--My birthday
Today is my 29th birthday. We didn't plan anything big today (maybe next year when I turn 30!) but I still got everything I asked for. I had wanted a set of matching dishes so that everyone could have a matching plate. Since our family has had eight members, I have never had enough matching plates for everyone. Erick got me not just eight, but TEN matching plates! He also bought me some more spoons and forks! Yay!
I had to make my own birthday cake, but that's okay. I make a really yummy chocolate cake and so I was happy to make it. I must be getting senile in my old age, though, because I forgot to grease the pans. So I didn't even attempt to take the cake layers out of the pans and stack them, I just iced them individually while still in the pans.
I found one lone birthday candle in the drawer, a little bit dusty but still in overall good shape, so I washed it off and put it in the middle of one of the layers. Joy wanted to light the candle, so I let her try. She struck the match okay, but seemed to have trouble getting the candle to light. By the time the wick caught, the flame was halfway up the match, so she blew it out rather quickly, and in the process blew out my candle. So then Jay had a try, and it took him a bit but he managed to light the candle and keep it lit.
My family sang "Happy Birthday" to me, and I went to blow out the candle but I was laughing and I didn't have enough breath to even blow out the one candle! It's a good thing I forgot to make a wish, 'cause I wouldn't have got it! Erick blew my candle out for me.
Now I am the same age as my husband, and three years older than my sister. For a couple of months, anyway.
