July 23, 2008--Test week

We've been doing a test week of school this week. I switched to another curriculum this fall, after a lifetime of Konos, and so I wanted to see if my schedule that I had made up was doable or not. So far I've made a few changes to my schedule, but I'm really liking Rod and Staff. It seems to be a really good curriculum. Half of the kids say it's fun, the other half said it's boring, but they said that Konos was boring too, so it's not like we're losing ground in that area or anything.

In other news...

Our garden has been finally producing some cucumbers, beans, zuccinni, and one tomato so far. I've frozen some zuccinni and soon I'm going to get busy and can some pickles.

Erick did a roof last week for a church member who couldn't seem to get a company to come out and actually give him a quote. The extra money will help.

Erick also built me a ballet barre last week, and it's wonderful! It's ten feet long, so I'll be able to fit lots of kids on it. Co-op starts the 28th of August, so I've been busy practicing two or three times a week so I can have the strength and stamina to get through two hours of ballet classes on Thursdays.

Something has eaten most of our chickens. Within two days we went from 10 chickens (one rooster and nine hens) to 3 chickens, all hens. It happened in broad daylight, too--they just disappeared last Saturday and Sunday. There were a few feathers scattered around, but that's all. Erick wants to order more chickens.

We've got a busy August planned, so I'll try and remember to come in here and post updates about our life as it happens.
