I'm working on a new habit. I've never had a consistent
devotion time. I've tried before havinga consistent time of the day, but morning
are usually busy and at nights I'm tired, and there never seems to be enough
time during the day. There are some nights of the week where I am the last one
in bed and I usually get some devotional time in there, but that's only about
three nights a week. I know I need more time in the Bible than that.
For
years I've struggled with the idea of getting up early to do them. I really,
really like sleeping and I hate getting up. I usually like to get every minute
of sleep I can in the morning. But I've finally gotten to the point where
something's got to be done, and I set the alarm clock for a half hour early on
Monday and got up to devotions.
The first couple of days didn't go so well.
I made the mistake of trying to read my Bible in bed. I kept drifting off during
prayer.
Today I decided to get out of bed and go into the livingroom to
read. That worked better, but it did start out on the wrong foot because I
couldn't find my favorite Bible and I had to read my old one.
It's tough for
me to pray first thing in the morning, though. I feel rusty and slow and can't
think of anything to pray about. I guess I'll get used to it if I keep it up.
I haven't done it enough to say it's a new habit, but I really want it to
be.
