October 17, 2007--Beautiful Day
We had such a lovely day today. Erick gets Wednesdays off, but for most of the summer he's been busy with one thing or another on Wednesdays. He did odd jobs for people, and lately he's been working on getting his truck (the one that used to be his Grandpa's) fixed up, but today he took off the entire day and we just had fun as a family.
First we went to Turkey Run state park and went hiking. It was so beautiful! We chose the most rugged trail (really smart when you have a passel of little ones! ) and it was pretty challenging. Most of the kids did great on it. It went in between these huge chasms of limestone with a tiny creek trickling down the middle, and you had to cross over multiple times on logs, and climb up slippery rocks and walk along high, narrow ledges. It was absolutely gorgeous. Some of the little ones got their feet wet a few times when they couldn't quite jump over the water, and we had to carry Timothy through a lot of it. We finally got a fork in the trail and picked an easier route to continue on, only moderately rugged. It was longer than the other one (two miles instead of 1.7 miles) but that was worth the trade. The kids were disappointed though--they wanted to continue on the rugged trail. They thought the moderately rugged trail was boring. They still had fun, though. Timothy kept saying, "A-MAZE-ing!" every few minutes.
After that, we had to run to a conveniece store to buy bread for the sandwiches I had packed. I had remembered peanut butter and jelly for those in our family that like it, and bologna and mayonaise for those who prefer that, and a bag of apples, and some granola bars, and even butterknives for everything, but I had forgotten to buy bread. We brought it back to the park and ate.
Then we went to Chuck E. Cheese's and ate pizza and played on the games, and then we went home. Everyone is now watching "Stewart Little" and it about twenty minutes we need to leave for church. It's been a fun day. The weather was just so perfect while were at the park. It's raining now, so I guess we came home in time.
